Hartford Flavor Company Founder to Keynote SRC Super 60 2018

October 9, 2018

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 4, 2018 – Lelaneia Dubay, co-founder of Hartford Flavor Company, a distillery in Hartford, Conn., will be the keynote speaker at the Springfield Regional Chamber’s 2018 Super 60 event, presented by Health New England and sponsored by People’s United Bank. The event is also sponsored by Wells Fargo, The Republican, MassHire Hampden County Workforce Board and Zasco Productions.

Now in its 29th year, the Super 60 program celebrates the success of the fastest-growing and privately-owned businesses in the region which continue to make significant contributions to the strength of the regional economy.

Hartford Flavor Company, based, as the name implies, in Hartford Conn., was founded by Dubay and her husband Tom in 2015. Lelaneia had been making cranberry liqueurs as gifts for family and friends for years and they were always a hit. She began experimenting with other flavors, including lavender, picked from her garden.

The idea for starting a business to produce the liqueurs came following a holiday party in 2013, at which the Dubays served “Lelaneia’s Lavender Liqueur,” a homemade liqueur that Lelaneia made with lavender pulled from her garden and steeped in vodka. Mixologists and restaurateurs at the party called it “magic in a bottle,” and urged the couple to bring the liqueur to market.

The Dubays had satisfying careers and opening a distillery was not in their wildest dreams, but after testing several more flavors with tasting panels and receiving an enthusiastic response to the all-natural, botanically-infused liqueurs, they founded Hartford Flavor Company with a combination of their personal savings, loans from family and friends, and a small business empowerment group.

Their Wild Moon line of liqueurs features six flavors - rose, cucumber, lavender, cranberry, birch and chai spice, and is now distributed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Colorado, Florida, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, with California soon to be added.

Dubay says the mission of Hartford Flavor Company is to provide uniquely-flavored natural liqueurs that are on-trend and align with the idea that the creative cocktail is an essential aspect of both social and dining experiences.  Wild Moon liqueurs are featured in cocktails at the Lobby Bar at MGM Springfield.

Hartford Flavor Company now has a tasting room at its Arbor Street production facility and a staff of 10 part-time employees.

“Hartford Flavor Company is an example of a true entrepreneurial story about how an idea, a passion, or a hobby can become a thriving business by tapping into a trend and creating a unique product.  We’re excited that, just as Springfield is experiencing a renaissance, so is Hartford, with entrepreneurs like Lelaneia and Tom Dubay opening businesses just a train ride away on the new commuter rail line that connects the two cities,” said Springfield Regional Chamber President Nancy Creed.

The Super 60 Celebration event honoring this year’s class will be held October 26, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Chez Josef, 176 Shoemaker Lane, Agawam.
